USCIC announced the availability of two new grants that are designed to help lawful permanent residents prepare for citizenship and integration in the U.S. This year, nearly $7 million will be made available for education initiatives throughout the country. According to USCIS, these two competitive grant programs will help expand citizenship preparation programs for lawful permanent residents that wish to achieve U.S. citizenship.
Citizenship and Integration Direct Services Grant Program - The first funding opportunity will focus on providing funding for local programs that are currently working to promote the rights and responsibilities of citizenship through direct citizenship preparation programs for lawful permanent residents. Examples of such programs include those with initiatives to prepare lawful permanent residents for the civics and the English reading, writing and speaking portions of the naturalization test.
Organizations interested in applying for this grant opportunity should send a required letter of intent by March 26, 2010 to the following email address: citizenshipgrantprogram@dhs.gov.
Citizenship and Integration National Capacity Building Grant Program- The second funding opportunity will focus on increasing the capacity building initiatives of national, regional and statewide organizations that provide citizenship services in underserved communities. Funding through this grant will assist these organizations in promoting the integration of immigrants in the U.S. through direct citizenship services for lawful permanent residents.
Organizations interested in applying for this grant opportunity should send a required letter of intent by March 26, 2010 to the following email address: citizenshipgrantprogram@dhs.gov.
To apply for either of these programs, visit www.grants.gov (http://www.grants.gov).

I might send them a couple of recommendations. One of them has to do with issuing receipt notices the same day or next day instead of waiting for weeks by using bar-code technology in forms. I will post a copy of email here once I send it.

Attorneys....
I have an approved I-140 and have applied for the I-485 in August 2007 and got my and my wife’s EAD and AP in October 2007, which we are periodically renewing. I am the primary applicant in the GC application.
The company which sponsored my GC is a small Information Technology firm.
I am currently working fulltime with another company using my EAD. I came to know that my previous company who sponsored my green card is not doing well.
My question is:
1) What happens to my Green Card application if my GC sponsored company shutsdown or file for bankruptcy?
2) Since I am working on EAD, what will be my status, if my GC sponsored company shuts down or file for bankruptcy?
3) What happens to my GC application?

Dude, don't ask why. Just do what your attorney (if you have one) is asking you to do. My attorney asked for all pages of all passports (current and expired).

Hello,
My 6 year H1 term expires on Feb-2010. I have a I-140 pending in NSC since July-2007 with no signs of movement.
Hypothetically, if my I-140 gets processed after Feb-2009 and is denied (God forbid!), then will I be able to extend my H1 visa? If so, on what basis can I do it?
I do understand that H1 can be extended only before 6 months of expiration if and only if I have a I-140 pending or approved.
Thanks!

Does anyone know what email / letter(s) one should get when the GC is approved ?
I received this email two days ago:
On November 13, 2006, a welcome notice was mailed for this case. If 30 days have passed and you have not received this notice. Please call the National Customer Service Center at (800) 375-5283 during business hours.
Does this constitute as a GC approval ?
I read in other threads that a "card ordered" email follows the GC approval but I haven't received the email (nor the physical card yet).
Does it normally take 1 or more weeks for the physical card to arrive after approval ?
Thank you for any insight you can provide.
hello Md_123,
Congratulations on crossing the greencard hurdle. You have been a member since March 2006 and have been participating in this struggle. You have also endured a long wait since Aug 2001. If you have not yet contributed pls do not forget to contribute some money to IV. It will help keep this struggle alive and help other members waiting in line.

My wife came to USA in 2002 on H4.She changed from H4 to H1 in 2004 Nov.Since then she worked continuously till now (Jan 2009).Now she's planning to take a break and change back to H4.If she wants to work again sometime in future maybe after a couple of years will she come under quota?Does she have to apply for a new H1 or can she work the remaining 2 yrs left on her H1?We missed the bus and could not apply for 485 in July.
Thanks to any suggestions.
>> Now she's planning to take a break and change back to H4.
File for change of status to H4.
>> If she wants to work again sometime in future maybe after a couple of years will she come under quota?
Since she got H1 status first time in Nov 2004, she can have H1 transfer without quota only until Nov 2010. After that her H4-to-H1 will be subject to cap.

I am currently on OPT (Optional Practical Period) which is one year work authorization after completing my masters degree which started in Fed 2010 and valid for one year, and I got married to a US citizen in June 2010 (she is a born US citizen) and we applied for neutralization and our interview was scheduled in Oct 2010, But the thing is my wife was hiding one fact that she was married before and was divorced in 1999 She did not told me this until the interview was schedule with the fear of loosing me as she lied to me from the beginning when we first meet back in Aug 2007 and she continued with same lie with the fear of loosing me if she tells me the truth and assuming I will never find out about it, but later after the immigration interview was scheduled she told me the truth thinking something might go wrong and could land me in trouble and we went to court to get the divorce papers surprisingly the divorce was not finalized and after doing the paper work the divorce is now finalized.
Since we applied for immigration when her first marriage divorce was not finalized our application becomes invalid so we withdraw our application and we received an acknowledgement for the same.
Now that our marriage is valid and can apply for it again, but now my questions are.....
1. I dont understand what is my current status? Am I still considered as a student? Shall I apply for H1B Visa in premium process as my OPT expired in Feb 2011?
2. Can I continue to be a Foreign Student (F1 Visa Status) after my OPT expired in Feb 2011.
3. Shall I reapply for Change of Status again with new application? With new papers??
4. While I was a student I worked on Cash is that going to be a problem for me??
Please Advise, and let me know If there any questions related to the above case.
Thanks

Hi Every one,
I'm on OPT right now ,i'm done with my masters in DEC 2007.
My visa Stamp in my passport was only untill april 2008(I got F1 stamped only for 24 months), now i'm on OPT extension.I applied H1B in 2008 and got RFE my employer could not answer the RFE and revoked my petition.
I did't apply in 2009 even i have chance to apply(because of the JOB fear ) i got my OPT extension approved ,my OPT extension is going to end in June 2010 , any way i will be applying H1B in 2010.
My question is if i don't get H1B in 2010 ,my plan i to take CPT and search for jobs ,does it effects my future immigration any way.
Thanks in advance for every one.

Is postal address for e-Filed AP & EAD same, I have e-filed the EAD/AP renewal have 2 questions please respond.
1) The postal address for AP shows same as EAD renewal for e-Filed, is this correct.
2) The 2 photos is only for EAD renewal not AP, seems they will take a picture/fingerprint for AP by appointment.
Req docs, you will have to send (I-765/EAD)
1. a copy of of your I-765/EAD E-file receipt,
2. pending I-485 receipt,
3. two 2"x2" passport photograph,
4. copy of your previous EAD, both side
5. drivers license, both side
6. passport non-immigrant visa page
(even if its expired, it will serve as a federal issued photo ID).
Req docs, you will have to send (I-131/AP)
1. I-131/AP E-file receipt
2. Photo Id: License
3. Passport visa page
4. 485 receipt copy
If applying for Re-entry Permit, you must be fingerprinted as part of USCIS biometric services requirements. After you have filed this application, USCIS will notify you in writing of the time and location where you must go to be fingerprinted. If necessary, USCIS may also take your photograph and signature.
